TICO BULL – On my regular walk along the Avenida Central (the Bulevar), noticed many retailers with their Christmas windows, enticing passersby to look and possibly shop. But where was the Halloween stuff?
From the Plaza de la Cultura to the Central Market, only one store window offered a Halloween window, and one casino with a Halloween entrance.
OK, Halloween is a recent holiday addition to Costa Rica. And yes, it is only a week at best of shopping for a party costume and decorations, whereas Christmas is like three months and more.
I suppose the absence of the fall weather and the Christmas retail season starting early, only those with some discretionary can really get into the Halloween spending, sorry, spirit. A shame, because Halloween can be fun, even on a very tight budget.
There isn’t even a Halloween lottery!
