COSTA RICA NEWS — For those planning a trip to east from or to San José, on the Ruta 32, through the Braulio Carrillo, take note of the closure at the Zurqui tunnel Thursday night.

The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) announced that the Ruta 32 will be closed at the Zurqui tunnel from 10:00pm Thursday to 3:00am Friday.

The closure is to allow the Laboratorio Nacional de Materiales y Modelos Estructurales (Lanamme) of the University of Costa Rica to record the current status of the tunnel, using a topographic laser, said Lanamme spokesman, Luis Guillermo Loria.

The objective of the study is to implement a system of routine monitoring of the tunnel.

Alternate routes are through Turrialba and Sarapiquí de Heredia.
